Loving Arms Childbirth Services

Janaki Costello

Founder

I am the Founder of Loving Arms Childbirth Services and teach childbirth preparation.  I have worked with pregnant women, their partners and families since 1975, attended several hundred births and love supporting families during such an important and vulnerable time.

I’ve been a La Leche League Leader since 1975, a Doula and Childbirth Educator since 1994 and was a Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 1995, retired now.

I am the mother of three grown sons and grandmother of five.

My road to birth work evolved through my own privileged experiences as a white woman but I have seen first hand that many BIPOC women have not had the mostly positive experiences I have had. I will be working to educate myself and Loving Arms about birth justice and will contribute financially each year to organizations run by and for BIPOC women.

“Our class with Janaki was amazing- everything I could have wanted (and many things I didn’t know I wanted) in a childbirth class. I work in the medical field and signed up thinking the experience would be very beneficial for my husband to “get him up to speed” and was shocked at how much I learned just in the first class alone. The 8 weeks was the perfect amount of time to go into the details of labor and delivery, a variety of labor coping techniques, information about the immediate postpartum period with baby, and the best one time class on breastfeeding you could get.”
