Roxy Bahar

Roxy Bahar started out her childbirth journey as an academic — she holds a PhD in Sociology from UC Davis, where her doctoral research focused on the ways that women’s race, class and gender identities shape their birth experiences and outcomes.   After spending over a decade immersed in maternal health research, Roxy wanted to be more actively involved in supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and motherhood, so in 2012 she decided to train and practice as a doula.  Currently she is the Director of the Pacifica Family Fund, a nonprofit that aims to increase access to midwifery care for underserved populations in the Bay Area. She loves sharing both her scientific knowledge of maternal health and her practical experience as a birth worker and mother with the amazing families who take Loving Arms classes.
